Program Overview
Living with a mental health condition can be overwhelming, especially if the symptoms are severe and persistent. This can become even more challenging if an adolescent develops a substance use disorder in addition to a mental health concern. In this case, this is known as a co-occurring addiction.
At Options Behavioral Health Hospital, we offer inpatient programming for adolescents ages 12-18 of all genders who are struggling with a primary mental health concern. We also provide care for adolescents who have developed a co-occurring substance use disorder.
The round-the-clock care your child will receive in our adolescent inpatient program can help them achieve stabilization, reclaim a sense of safety, and regain control of the symptoms that have disrupted their day-to-day life.
Most adolescents receive care in our inpatient program for three to seven days, but your child’s actual length of stay will depend on their specific needs and goals.
Care Experience
Every child who comes to us in a state of crisis benefits from highly structured, closely supervised care that is delivered in a warm and nurturing environment.
During their inpatient stay at Options Behavioral Health Hospital, your child will work closely with compassionate professionals who have been specially trained in a variety of techniques and approaches that are optimal for helping young people in crisis, including:
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)
- Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT)
Every child completes a comprehensive assessment of their presenting concerns, medical history, needs, and goals before treatment begins. Based on this information, we custom-build a care plan that may include:
- Crisis intervention
- Medication management
- Group therapy
- Family therapy
- Experiential therapy
Daily group therapy sessions are central to the care your child will receive in our adolescent inpatient program, covering a range of topics such as anger management, coping skills, and goal setting. Experiential therapies your child may take part in include music therapy, expressive arts therapy, and recreational therapy.
Continuing Care
Most inpatient stays are short, because the goal is for your child to reach a place in their healing journey where they can transition to a lower level of care or safely return home.
Wherever your child is in their healing process, our expert team will ensure that they have the resources and support they need to continue to take steps forward.
When your child’s time in our adolescent inpatient program ends, they will receive a comprehensive discharge plan that is tailored to their unique needs.
This will include a summary of the progress they made while in our care, any areas that may need continued focus, and referrals to step-down care or other local resources your child may need to continue their progress.
A mental health condition and co-occurring addiction can have a devastating impact on an adolescent, but with the compassionate support of the professionals at Options Behavioral Health Hospital, your child can live a more fulfilling, productive life.
